This page provides a comprehensive guide to the ways you can configure tariffs through the Exploren platform.

Duration plus energy
The most common type of tariff used by Exploren customers.
Cost of a charging session is determined by a connection fee, energy fee, duration fee and idle fee.
Connection fee
Connection fee minimum session duration (minutes)
Any sessions less than this duration will not incur a connection fee, e.g. 2 minutes
Connection fee minimum session energy (kWh)
Any sessions that consume less than this amount of energy will not incur a connection fee, e.g. 0.5kWh
Energy fee – price per kWh
A fee based on the amount of power consumed by the user, e.g. $0.33
Duration fee time-period
Determines the interval at which the Duration fee applies, options: [1min, 15min, 30min, 60min, 240min, 360min]
Fee per time-period
Determines the fee per specified period. e.g. $0.45
If a user were to charge for an hour with a Duration fee time-period of 15min and a Fee per time-period of $0.45 would result in the user being charged a $1.80 duration fee.
Duration fee grace period
Grace period before the Duration fee begins to count, e.g. 15min
Idle fee per minute
A fee charged per minute whenever the vehicle is connected to the charge point but not drawing any power, e.g. $0.50
Idle fee grace period
Grace period before the Idle fee begins to count, e.g. 15min
Pre-authorize amount
Amount that is blocked on the user’s card when a session begins and is refunded later. Default 10min
Min price
Minimum total fee per session.
Can be described like this:
Duration + energy
Connection fee: $0.40, (minimum 2 minutes, 0.5kWh)
Energy fee: $0.33 per kWh
Duration fee: $0.45 per 30min (15min grace period)
Idle fee: $0.25 per minute (15minute grace period
Pre-authorize amount: $10
Minimum price: $4.00
Duration plus energy – Time of Day
Similar to Duration + energy, but with the ability to configure different energy, duration and idle fees for night and day periods.
Day tariff start
Start of the time period where the “day” fees are applied, in 24hr time, e.g. 07:00
Night tariff start
Start of the time period where the “night” fees are applied, in 24hr time, e.g. 18:00
Can be described like this:

Day start: 07:00
Night start: 18:00
Connection fee: $0.40, (minimum 2 minutes, 0.5kWh)
Energy fee: $0.33 (day), $0.20 (night)
Duration fee: $0.45 (day), $0.30(night) per 30min (15min grace period)
Idle fee: $0.25 (day), $0.15(night) per minute (15minute grace period)
Pre-authorize amount: $10
Minimum price: $4.00
Energy – Time of use
Allows per-kWh pricing based on a configured electricity rate across a day.
Electricity rate
Define cost of electricity using blocks of either 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour. Can include different configured costs for different days of the week.

Markup – % per kWh
Percentage markup to charge above the configured electricity cost.
Markup – fixed fee per kWh
Fixed fee to add on to the configured electricity cost.
Flexible markup – fixed fee per kWh
Configure different fixed fee markup for each period of the day.
Per unit billing
Allows per-kWh and per-time-unit billing, where different rates can be configured for different charging quantities and times.
For example – the energy fee can be set to $0.30 per kWh for the first 10kWh, then $0.45 per kWh until 20kWh is charged, and then $0.60 per kWh for all power drawn after that.
Similarly, the duration and idle fees can be set to $0.35 per hour for the first 2 hours, then $0.70 per hour until the session reaches 4 hours, and then $1.00 per hour for all charging time after that.

Energy fee
0kWh to 10kWh, $0.30 per kWh
10kWh to 20kWh, $0.45 per kWh
> 20kWh, $0.60 per kWh
Duration fee
0 to 2 hours, $0.35 per hour
2 to 4 hours, $0.70 per hour
>4 hours, $1.00 per hour
Idle fee
0 to 1 hours, $0.70 per hour
1 to 2 hours, $1.40 per hour
>2 hours, $5.00 per hour
Pre-authorize amount: $10
Minimum price: $4.00
Time of day billing
Allows per-kWh and per-time-unit billing, where different rates can be configured for different periods of the day.
Can be described like this:
Standard – Time of day billing
[7:00 to 14:00]
Connection fee: $0.40, (minimum 2 minutes, 0.5kWh)
Energy fee: $0.33 per kWh
Duration fee: $0.45 per 30min (15min grace period)
Idle fee: $0.25 per minute (15minute grace period)
[14:00 to 07:00]
Connection fee: $0.40, (minimum 2 minutes, 0.5kWh)
Energy fee: $0.25 per kWh
Duration fee: $0.10 per 30min (15min grace period)
Idle fee: $0.25 per minute (15minute grace period)
Pre-authorize amount: $10
